Visit to Nevers, France

Dear Friends,

I spent two weeks in Europe with 50 people on pilgrimage. I was their spiritual director. We began in Poland where we visited the Divine Mercy Shrine in Krokow and we prayed at the remains of St. Faustina in the convent there. The next day we visited the birthplace of Blessed John Paul II and the parish church where he was baptized, made his first Confession and Holy Communion and Confirmation and it was in this church that he was ordained a priest. On the last day we went to the great shrine of Our Blessed Mother under the name of Our Lady of Poland.

Next we visited the Cathedral of Prague in the Czeck Republic. This cathedral is famous for the beautiful statue of the Infant Jesus that is well known all over the world. The following day we were in Nevers, France, for a visit at the Convent of the sisters where St. Bernadette lived as a religious sister. Nevers is two and one-half hour south of Paris. When we arrived at the convent I went straight to the chapel of the convent to see the incorrupt body of St. Bernadette. I could not stay long in the chapel at this time because I had to prepare to celebrate Holy Mass at the grotto outside at 8:30 a.m. I then prepared for the Mass and we began on time. The Mass was celebrated in honor of St. Bernadette.

After Holy Mass, I went back to the chapel where the Body of St. Bernadette is exposed in a glass coffin. I sat in front of the body of this great saint and prayed. St. Bernadette spoke to me in French. Here are her words to me in English:

Father Doucette, Our Blessed Mother and I have been praying for you. As you know the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to me at Lourdes, and She has appeared to you too in Prince Edward Island, Canada. Continue to spread Her messages throughout the world. The Blessed Mother and I have interceded for you before Our Lord Jesus and He has granted you a great healing. Do not worry about the future. You will soon receive the money you need to build the two monasteries, one for the Contemplative Brothers of Jesus and the other for the Contemplative Sisters of Jesus. I bless you.

I thanked St. Bernadette for her message.

Father Melvin
