The Ministry in Galilee

A reading from the Gospel of Saint Luke 4, 14 – 30:

Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news of him spread throughout the whole region. He taught in the synagogues and was praised by all.
He came to Nazareth, where he had grown up, and went according to his custom into the synagogue on the Sabbath day. He stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.”

Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him. He said to them, “Today this scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.” And all spoke highly of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. They also asked, “Isn’t this the son of Joseph?” He said to them, “Surely you will quote me this proverb, ‘Physician, cure yourself,’ and say, ‘Do here in your native place the things that we heard were done in Capernaum.’ ” And he said, “Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place. Indeed, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah when the sky was closed for three and a half years and a severe famine spread over the entire land. It was to none of these that Elijah was sent, but only to a widow in Zarephath in the land of Sidon. Again, There were many lepers in Israel during the time of Elisha the prophet; yet not one of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian.” When the people in the synagogue heard this, they were all filled with fury. They rose up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town bad been built, to hurl him down head-long. But he passed through the midst of them and went away.

A wintry storm passed over the Island yesterday and during the night. It snowed but not much and then the freezing rain fell. There are a few centimeters of snow here at this time but what was worst was the freezing rain. The roads became very slippery and I went out and fell on the ice twice. It was very slippery indeed. I used the salt I had and spread it around the house so that I would not fall again. In the evening the roads were still slippery in spots but the road workers passed and spread sand everywhere and the cars could go by without much trouble. It is supposed to be very cold tonight.

Below you will find the message of Our Lord and Savior given to Father Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words,

“Come My brother Melvin and all My brothers and sisters and follow Me during My public life as we go through the Gospel. After My forty days in the desert and having been tempted three times by the devil, I left that place and went to Galilee especially to the town of Nazareth were I grew up. Many people had heard what had happened since I began My public life and they had difficulty believing all they heard. Anyway on the Sabbath day I went to the synagogue in Nazareth and many people of that town were present. I was given the scroll of the prophet Isaiah to read. What I read was a prophecy about Me. It said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.” I told the people at the synagogue that these words were fulfilled that day. For indeed I am the one who came filled with the Holy Spirit and to bring glad tidings to the poor. One in the group asked Me, “Isn’t this the son of Joseph?” This shows that they had difficulty to accept what I was saying. I told them that no prophet is accepted in his own native place. After I had finished talking to the people, they were all furious and they grabbed Me and brought Me to the tip of the hill and they wanted to throw Me down to kill Me. However, My time had not yet arrived, so I just started walking in their midst and went away. So you see the place where I had grown up refused to believe in Me and they wanted to kill Me. They could not accept that I was the Messiah, the Savior of the world. I could not do any healings in that town because they did not accept Me. This is what happens today too when the people do not accept Me. There will be no healings in their midst and they will continue to suffer. It is absolutely important that you believe in Me so I can do the work I was called to do for you. Pray regularly and ask for an increase of faith so I can lift you out of darkness and bring you to the light, the light that comes from Me. I bless you all.”

The Temptation of Jesus

The Temptation of Jesus

A reading from the Gospel of Saint Luke 4, 1 – 13:

Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert for forty days, to be tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when they were over he was hungry. The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.” Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘One does not live by bread alone.'” Then he took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a single instant. The devil said to him, “I shall give to you all this power and their glory, for it has been handed over to me, and I may give it to whomever I wish. All this will be yours, if you worship me.” Jesus said to him in reply, “It is written: ‘You shall worship the Lord, your God, and him alone shall you serve.'”
Then he led him to Jerusalem, made him stand on the parapet of the temple, and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, for it is written: ‘He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you,’ and ‘With their hands they will support you, lest you dash your foot against a stone.'”
Jesus said to him in reply, “It also says, ‘You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test.'” When the devil had finished every temptation, he departed from him for a time.

I celebrated the Epiphany of the Lord on Sunday January 4. This is the day that the three Magi came to Jerusalem to worship the Child Jesus and to offer Him great gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. This day tells us that Jesus did not come just to save the Jews but all the people of the world. So we are all called to believe in Jesus as Our Savior and Lord and to love Him and one another and to follow what Jesus has told us. Jesus has opened heaven for us but we must walk with Him if we wish to be in heaven one day.

Below you will find the message of Our Lord and Savior given to Father Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words,

“Come My brother Melvin and all My brothers and sisters and follow Me in a spiritual way in the desert where I spent forty days. My brother Melvin you came to Israel and you spent a full day in the desert in the area where I was. You saw the cave where I slept at night and you saw the barren place that the desert is. There is nothing to eat there and nobody lives there. I stayed there for forty days praying to My Heavenly Father and contemplating Him with all My heart. He told Me all that would happen during My public life and all that I should do as His Son who loves Him. I did not eat nor drink anything during those days. However, it was a beautiful time before the beginning of My public life. It is true that the devil came three times to tempt Me. The first temptation was to change a rock into a loaf of bread. I refused because the gift of doing miracles was not to be used for My own purpose but for the people I came to save. Then He took me to a high mountain and showed Me all the Kingdoms of the world and these were all in his hands and he was ready to give them all to Me if I would kneel and worship him the devil. I refused because we are called to worship God alone and never the devil. Then he brought Me to the top of the Temple in Jerusalem and told Me to throw Myself down and the angels would take care of Me. I told him that one should never put the Lord to the test. We are to obey God and not to test Him. After that the devil left. As you see I never agreed even once to what the devil told Me and how I wish that all of you would do the same. Call on Me every day for the graces you need to say “no” to the devil as I did. I want you all to be as strong as I am. I bless you all.”

P.S. We got a little bit of snow on the Feast of the Epiphany and we expect rain this evening and it should take away most of the snow.

The First Disciples

The First Disciples

A reading from the Gospel of Saint John 1, 35 – 42:

The next day John the Baptist was there again with two of his disciples, and as he watched Jesus walk by, he said, “Behold, the Lamb of God.” The two disciples heard what he said and followed Jesus. Jesus turned and saw them following him and said to them, “What are you looking for?” They said to him, “Rabbi” (which translated means Teacher), “where are you staying?” He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they went and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. It was about four in the afternoon. Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard John and followed Jesus. He first found his own brother Simon and told him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated Anointed). Then he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John; you will be called Kephas” (which is translated Peter).

On Sunday, January 4, is the Feast of the Epiphany this year when the Church celebrates
the adoration of Jesus by the Magi. Up till now it was the Jews who came to see the child Jesus and adored Him. However, with the Magi we have the first Gentiles to come and adore Jesus. This is to tell us that Jesus came for the salvation of both the Jews and the Gentiles. The Gentiles are all these people who are not Jewish. This feast is really the Christmas Feast of the Gentiles and the feast on December 25 is for the Jews. However, the Church celebrates both feasts. The Magi were led to the child Jesus by a star that brought them to Bethlehem exactly to the house where Jesus was living with His Mother Mary and with Joseph.

Below you will find the message of Our Lord and Savior given to Father Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words,

“I bless you My brother Melvin and all My brothers and sisters who believe in Me and have great love for Me. It is very special indeed that the three Magi came from a country in the East and traveled following a star which they knew referred to My birth in Israel. They left their country and traveled for many days going through Jerusalem where they stopped and asked where I was born. Herod told them that I was born in Bethlehem and they left and followed the star to the house where I was staying.
When it was time for Me to begin My public life, I went to the Jordan River to be baptized by John the Baptist. It was John the Baptist who told two of his followers that I was the Lamb of God. With that the two followers began to follow Me and after I asked them what they were looking for, they came to where I was living and stayed with Me for a full day. One of the two followers was Andrew who became an Apostle of mine. It was Andrew who went to look for his brother Simon and when he found him he told him, “We have found the Messiah.” Yes, he was right for he had found Me, the Savior of the world. Andrew brought his brother Simon to Me and I changed his name. I said that he would be called Peter from now on. He too is an Apostle of mine. Andrew and Peter and My first Apostles who followed Me for three years and I appointed Peter the head of My Church.
My dear brothers and sisters, read these words in the Bible and come to understand that they express the truth about Me and about My Apostles. Come and follow all that I have taught you which is written in the Bible. You have to accept that I founded the Church and that Church is where you have Saint Peter as the first Pope and the Pope of today is known as the successor of Saint Peter, the Bishop of Rome. I bless you all.”

P.S. It was sunny on Jan. 3 for part of the day. There were clouds floating around.
