Functions of these Gifts

Dear Friends,

A reading from St. Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians (14:20-28)

Brothers, stop being childish in your thinking. In respect to evil be like infants, but in your thinking be mature. It is written in the law: “By people speaking strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners I will speak to this people, and even so they will not listen to me, says the Lord.” Thus, tongues are a sign not for those who believe but for unbelievers, whereas prophecy is not for unbelievers but for those who believe. So if the whole church meets in one place and everyone speaks in tongues, and then uninstructed people or unbelievers should come in, will they not say that you are out of your minds? But if everyone is prophesying, and an unbeliever or uninstructed person should come in, he will be convinced by everyone and judged by everyone, and the secrets of his heart will be disclosed, and so he will fall down and worship God, declaring, “God is really in your midst.” So what is to be done, brothers? When you assemble, one has a psalm, another an instruction, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Everything should be done for building up. If anyone speaks in a tongue, let it be two or at most three, and each in turn, and one should interpret. But if there is no interpreter, the person should keep silent in the church and speak to himself and to God.

The meeting called by Our Lady of Prince Edward Island will take place tomorrow, Saturday June 23, at 2:00 p.m. All are invited to the Little Shrine of Our Lady in Palmer Road.

(Below you will find the message of Our Lord and Savior given to Father Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words.)

“I bless you all with spiritual gifts, My brother Melvin and all My brothers and sisters scattered all over the world. If you are a Christian then you have received the Holy Spirit and so open your heart to Him. He has a gift or two or three for each one of you. You have to believe in Me, the Son of God and your Redeemer. The first gift that most people receive is the gift of tongues. This gift helps you to pray in the power of the Holy Spirit. You can use this gift when you are alone and spend time praying in tongues and have Me in your mind as you pray this way. It is also wonderful to pray in tongues together with a group. The sound of joy rises up to heaven and it pleases Me. Another gift that you should pray for is the gift of interpretation of tongues. If you have this gift then others will understand what is being prayed in tongues. It is a great gift to help people grow in their faith. The third gift, which is awesome, is the gift of prophecy. This gift is given to instruct people and I speak to those gathered in the power of the Holy Spirit. This gift brings people close to Me and helps them follow the right path that leads to union with Me in heaven. I bless you all.”

P.S. It was 44 years ago today that I was ordained a priest at the Parish Church in Palmer Road. Please say a prayer for me today.

Prophecy Greater than Tongues

Prophecy Greater than Tongues

Dear Friends,

A reading from St. Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians (14:1-12):

Pursue love, but strive eagerly for the spiritual gifts, above all that you may prophesy. For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to human beings but to God, for no one listens; he utters mysteries in spirit. On the other hand, one who prophesies does speak to human beings, for their building up, encouragement, and solace. Whoever speaks in a tongue builds himself up, but whoever prophesies builds up the church. Now I should like all of you to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. One who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may be built up. Now, brothers, if I should come to you speaking in tongues, what good will I do you if I do not speak to you by way of revelation, or knowledge, or prophecy, or instruction? Likewise, if inanimate things that produce sound, such as flute or harp, do not give out the tones distinctly, how will what is being played on flute or harp be recognized? And if the bugle gives an indistinct sound, who will get ready for battle? Similarly, if you, because of speaking in tongues, do not utter intelligible speech, how will anyone know what is being said? For you will be talking to the air. It happens that there are many different languages in the world, and none is meaningless; but if I do not know the meaning of a language, I shall be a foreigner to one who speaks it, and one who speaks it a foreigner to me. So with yourselves: since you strive eagerly for spirits, seek to have an abundance of them for building up the church.

I thank the Lord for yet another beautiful day which we had yesterday; it was sunny and warm. I guess summer began yesterday, June 20th

(Below you will find the message of Our Lord and Savior given to Father Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words.)

“I bless you, My brother Melvin and all My brothers and sisters living in every part of the world. I desire that you all receive some of the wonderful gifts of the Spirit that I have for you. Please open your hearts to Me and receive these gifts. The greatest gift is the gift of prophecy. Those who have this gift can speak in My name and they can know various things, which nobody knows. The gift of prophecy helps to raise up My Church and helps all her members to follow the right path I have traced out for them. One who has the gift of prophecy can also enlighten the people who are not aware that they are on the wrong way. Through this gift the people will come to know that they are doing wrong and offending Me. An example of this would be all those Christians who live together but they are not married. Some do not know that they are committing sin. So if one could enlighten them by prophecy, they would realize that they need to receive the sacrament of Matrimony if they wish to follow the proper way. With this gift you can bring many people closer to Me. Pray, My friends, for this gift and you can be sure that you will receive it. I love you all and I bless you.”

The Way of Love

The Way of Love

Dear Friends,

(1 Cor 12:31b, 13:1-13) I shall show you a still more excellent way. If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal. And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, love is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing. For we know partially and we prophesy partially, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I used to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I put aside childish things. At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. At present I know partially; then I shall know fully, as I am fully known. So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

I wish to thank all those who prayed yesterday for my intention. It was answered. Praise the Lord.

(Below you will find the message of Our Lord and Redeemer given to Father Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words.)

“I love you, My brother Melvin and all My brothers and sisters living in every country of the world. I showed you My love when I was on earth and I am still showing you My love in many different ways. There is nothing greater than love. It is greater than any other gift you may receive. That is why I gave you the commandment: Love one another as I have loved you. I gave all that I had out of love for each one of you. I did not worry if I did not have anything to eat or I did not have a place to sleep. So often the Apostles and I slept outside under a tree. I also suffered much for you out of love. I was beaten terribly and flogged although I did not do anything wrong. At the end I was nailed to a cross and I was hanging there for about three hours. It was My great sacrifice to My Father and your Father in order to pay the price for your sins. I did it all out of love for you.

My friends, I call you all to love one another. Forgive those who have hurt you in any way. Forgive them and love them with all your heart. Pray for their salvation for this is what I want. I offered My sacrifice for those who have faith and those who do not have faith because I want everyone in heaven with Me one day. Do not hold a grudge against anyone because this comes because of hatred. If you have any resentment against a person, then offer that person up to Me and repeat about 25 times a day that you forgive him or her. After two weeks all resentment will be gone and you will love that person. I love you all.”
