Herod’s Persecution of the Christians

Dear Friends,
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles (12:1-10):

About that time King Herod laid hands upon some members of the church to harm them. He had James, the brother of John, killed by the sword, and when he saw that this was pleasing to the Jews he proceeded to arrest Peter also. (It was the feast of Unleavened Bread.) He had him taken into custody and put in prison under the guard of four squads of four soldiers each. He intended to bring him before the people after Passover. Peter thus was being kept in prison, but prayer by the church was fervently being made to God on his behalf.
On the very night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter, secured by double chains, was sleeping between two soldiers, while outside the door guards kept watch on the prison. Suddenly the angel of the Lord stood by him and a light shone in the cell. He tapped Peter on the side and awakened him, saying, “Get up quickly.” The chains fell from his wrists. The angel said to him, “Put on your belt and your sandals.” He did so. Then he said to him, “Put on your cloak and follow me.”So he followed him out, not realizing that what was happening through the angel was real; he thought he was seeing a vision. They passed the first guard, then the second, and came to the iron gate leading out to the city, which opened for them by itself. They emerged and made their way down an alley, and suddenly the angel left him.

We had another fine sunny day yesterday Sunday. It seems we will have a whole week of sunshine now.

Below you will find the message of Our Lord, the Son of God, given to Father Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words,
“Give thanks to the Father, My brother Melvin and all My brothers and sisters who have accepted Me as your Savior. As I was persecuted, so My followers too will be persecuted at times. You read what King Herod did to the Apostles. He killed Saint James and had Saint Peter arrested to be put on trial. Prayers are powerful because it was the prayers of the members of the Church that prompted Me to send the angel to rescue Saint Peter from the hands of the soldiers and King Herod. While the soldiers were all sleeping, the angel went inside the prison and woke up Saint Peter. He told him to dress and to follow him. All the chains fell and the doors opened and he was led outside by the angel. He was freed once more to do the work I gave him to do.
“When any member of the Church is persecuted or accused, I call you all to pray for that person that he or she might be freed. Pray too that the person has the strength to withstand any accusation or any punishment given to him or her. Like Saint Peter, that person could be freed by My great power. I am always there ready to help anyone who is in need, if he or she turns to Me. I love you all.”

The Church at Antioch

The Church at Antioch

Dear Friends,
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles (11:19-26):

Now those who had been scattered by the persecution that arose because of Stephen went as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to no one but Jews. There were some Cypriots and Cyrenians among them, however, who came to Antioch and began to speak to the Greeks as well, proclaiming the Lord Jesus. The hand of the Lord was with them and a great number who believed turned to the Lord. The news about them reached the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to go to Antioch. When he arrived and saw the grace of God, he rejoiced and encouraged them all to remain faithful to the Lord in firmness of heart, for he was a good man, filled with the holy Spirit and faith. And a large number of people was added to the Lord. Then he went to Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he had found him he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and taught a large number of people, and it was in Antioch that the disciples were first called Christians.

What a beautiful day we had yesterday, beautiful sunshine and not too cold! I went fishing trout again for a second time this year. This time I went with my sister, Esther. She caught the biggest trout she ever caught in her life. I suppose she had a great meal of trout last evening.

Below you will find the message of Our Lord, the Son of God, given to Father Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words,
“Rejoice My brother Melvin and all My brothers and sisters who belong to My Church. Read what happened to Antioch when the disciples taught the people there about Me. A huge crowd entered the Church at that time in this town. Although there was a problem between the Jews and the Gentiles, they sent Barnabas to Antioch to investigate and he found that the Holy Spirit filled the Gentiles just like the Apostles on the day of Pentecost. So all these Gentiles were baptized and Barnabas was full of joy.
“My brother Melvin, you saw something similar in Africa when you were there. You opened a church in a village where there were no Catholics and every Sunday the church was full with over 400 people. When it came to receive Holy Communion only one person came forward to receive, all the others were not baptized. Once they were instructed, then they were baptized and they all received Holy Communion. What a joy there was in that village when they all became My followers. This gave Me great joy too to see all these believers. I bless you My brother Melvin and all you who read this message. I love you all.”

The Baptism of Cornelius

The Baptism of Cornelius

Dear Friends,
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles (10:44-49):

While Peter was still speaking these things, the holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the word. The circumcised believers who had accompanied Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit should have been poured out on the Gentiles also, for they could hear them speaking in tongues and glorifying God. Then Peter responded, “Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit even as we have?” He ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they invited him to stay for a few days.

Yesterday, April 26th, was the Feast of Our Lady of Good Counsel. This title is very special for many women of Canada because many years ago they chose this title of Our Lady as their patron. Our Lady of Good Counsel is the Patron of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada and the Christian Mothers of America.

Below you will find the message of Our Blessed Mother given to Father Melvin. She spoke to him these words,
“Rejoice My son Melvin and all My sons and daughters who have accepted Me as their Mother. We are in the Easter Season, the time that followed the Resurrection of My Son Jesus. The Apostles were taught some more by My Son and He gave them great graces and after His Ascension He sent with God the Father the Holy Spirit upon them. I was there present with the Holy Spirit came down upon them. The chosen of My Son Jesus worked very hard to establish the Church. They worked in Israel and in many other countries of the world. Saint Peter did great work, as you can see from his visit to Cornelius and his family. While he was speaking to them, the Holy Spirit came on them all just like at Pentecost when the Holy Spirit filled the Apostles. All these people were chosen to become Christians and so they were baptized. This is a great event indeed.
“I pray that those who are not Christians yet, that they too may receive the great gift of the Holy Spirit and be filled with faith, and so come forward to be baptized and enter the Church founded by Jesus, My Son. I am praying that all My sons and daughters throughout the world may come to believe in My Son and become part of the Kingdom of God in the world. Yes, come and join the Church founded by Jesus on Saint Peter and the Apostles, and you will be blessed. Follow the teachings of My Son Jesus and remain close to Him. I bless you all.”
