Captivity in Caesarea

Dear Friends,
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles (24:22-27):

Then Felix, who was accurately informed about the Way, postponed the trial, saying, “When Lysias the commander comes down, I shall decide your case.” He gave orders to the centurion that he should be kept in custody but have some liberty, and that he should not prevent any of his friends from caring for his needs.
Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish. He had Paul summoned and listened to him speak about faith in Christ Jesus. But as he spoke about righteousness and self-restraint and the coming judgment, Felix became frightened and said, “You may go for now; when I find an opportunity I shall summon you again.” At the same time he hoped that a bribe would be offered him by Paul, and so he sent for him very often and conversed with him.
Two years passed and Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus. Wishing to ingratiate himself with the Jews, Felix left Paul in prison.

I finished the Newsletter and soon it will be mailed out. If anyone is interested to get it, it will cost $12.00 for Canada and $15:00 for those living outside of Canada. It is published in both English and French. I put out four issues of the Newsletter every year. Send the letter with the money to this address: Father Melvin Doucette, 1704 Palmer Road, R.R. 2, Tignish, PE C0B2B0.

Below you will find the message of Our Lord and Savior, the Son of God, given to Father Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words,
“I bless you My brother Melvin and all My brothers and sisters who are not afraid to follow Me every day. St. Paul was not afraid to speak about his faith in Me when he had a chance. He gave his life to Me and each day of his life was dedicated to Me. In fact he said that what was important was that I live in him. Yes, I come to live in the hearts of all My brothers and sisters who offer themselves totally to Me. May dear friends open your hearts to Me today so I may take it over and show you what sort of life you are to live. It does not make any difference where you live, what is important is that you live for Me and you are ready every day to follow My teachings. Never forget that I love you and I want you with Me always. I fill you all with My peace and My love.”

Trial before Felix

Trial before Felix

Dear Friends,
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles (24:1-15):

Five days later the high priest Ananias came down with some elders and an advocate, a certain Tertullus, and they presented formal charges against Paul to the governor. When he was called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, “Since we have attained much peace through you, and reforms have been accomplished in this nation through your provident care, we acknowledge this in every way and everywhere, most excellent Felix, with all gratitude. But in order not to detain you further, I ask you to give us a brief hearing with your customary graciousness. We found this man to be a pest; he creates dissension among Jews all over the world and is a ringleader of the sect of the Nazoreans. He even tried to desecrate our temple, but we arrested him. If you examine him you will be able to learn from him for yourself about everything of which we are accusing him.” The Jews also joined in the attack and asserted that these things were so.
Then the governor motioned to him to speak and Paul replied, “I know that you have been a judge over this nation for many years and so I am pleased to make my defense before you. As you can verify, not more than twelve days have passed since I went up to Jerusalem to worship. Neither in the temple, nor in the synagogues, nor anywhere in the city did they find me arguing with anyone or instigating a riot among the people. Nor can they prove to you the accusations they are now making against me. But this I do admit to you, that according to the Way, which they call a sect, I worship the God of our ancestors and I believe everything that is in accordance with the law and written in the prophets. I have the same hope in God as they themselves have that there will be a resurrection of the righteous and the unrighteous.

I thank the Lord for the beautiful day we had yesterday here in Prince Edward Island. It was sunny all day and it was warm.

Below you will find the message of Our Lord and Savior, the Son of God, given to Father Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words,
“Honor the truth, My brother Melvin and all My brothers and sisters who accept Me as your Savior and Lord. I came into the world to bring you the truth, the whole truth, and I call upon you all to believe My words. Saint Paul was accused of falsehood because the Jews wanted to kill him and they said all kinds of lies against him. It is well that he was before the governor Felix who would judge the case in a very good way.
“My friends, you will be accused at times by those who do not like you. They will exaggerate all kinds of things and at the end these are only falsehood. Do not worry about these people, but remain united to Me and know that I will give you the wisdom you need to defend yourselves. It is important that you contemplate My cross, as this is the sign of My suffering for you. You too will have a cross to carry, but carry it behind Me and I will lighten it for you. Embrace your cross and you will be blessed. I love you all.”

The Soldiers Take Paul to Caesarea

The Soldiers Take Paul to Caesarea

Dear Friends,
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles (23:23-35):

Then [the commander] summoned two of the centurions and said, “Get two hundred soldiers ready to go to Caesarea bynine o’clock tonight, along with seventy horsemen and two hundred auxiliaries. Provide mounts for Paul to ride and give him safe conduct to Felix the governor.” Then he wrote a letter with this content:
“Claudius Lysias to his excellency the governor Felix, greetings. This man, seized by the Jews and about to be murdered by them, I rescued after intervening with my troops when I learned that he was a Roman citizen. I wanted to learn the reason for their accusations against him so I brought him down to their Sanhedrin. I discovered that he was accused in matters of controversial questions of their law and not of any charge deserving death or imprisonment. Since it was brought to my attention that there will be a plot against the man, I am sending him to you at once, and have also notified his accusers to state their case against him before you.”
So the soldiers, according to their orders, took Paul and escorted him by night to Antipatris. The next day they returned to the compound, leaving the horsemen to complete the journey with him. When they arrived in Caesarea they delivered the letter to the governor and presented Paul to him. When he had read it and asked to what province he belonged, and learned that he was from Cilicia, he said, “I shall hear your case when your accusers arrive.” Then he ordered that he be held in custody in Herod’s praetorium.

We had a beautiful sunny day yesterday and it was warm in the afternoon.

Below you will find the message of Our Lord and Savior, the Son of God, given to Father Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words,
“I bless you, My brother Melvin and all My brothers and sisters who accept Me as your Savior who suffered to redeem you. If you are My followers, then indeed I will give you the graces you need to walk with Me every day. Some days will be days of joy and peace, while other days will be days of suffering, both physically and spiritually. Look at Saint Paul. He did not do anything wrong, yet he suffered being taken from one place to another and he had to live in prison for a long time. Yet he accepted all this for love of Me and to join with Me in My suffering. You know at the end he suffered martyrdom in Rome and I welcomed him in Heaven, and now he lives with all the angels and saints. My Mother has a great love for Saint Paul for all that he suffered while on earth. He was a man of wisdom and that is why many of his letters are in the Bible. Read these and learn many things as he was inspired by the Holy Spirit. Ask him to pray for you all. I love you all.”
