Power of the Tongue

November 30, 2013

Dear Friends,

Power of the Tongue

A reading from the Letter of Saint James 3, 1 – 12:

Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers and sisters, for you realize that we will be judged more strictly, for we all fall short in many respects. If anyone does not fall short in speech, he is a perfect man, able to bridle his whole body also. If we put bits into the mouth of horses to make them obey us, we also guide their whole bodies. It is the same with ships: even though they are so large and driven by fierce winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot’s inclination wishes. In the same way the tongue is a small member and yet has great pretensions.

Consider how small a fire can set a huge forest ablaze. The tongue is also a fire. It exists among our members as a world of malice, defiling the whole body and setting the entire course of our lives on fire, itself set on fire by Gehenna. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by the human species, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. This need not be so, my brothers and sisters. Does a spring gush forth from the same opening both pure and brackish water? Can a fig tree, my brothers and sisters, produce olives, or a grapevine figs? Neither can salt water yield fresh.

Today is the last day of November and we can thank the Lord for a good month. We end the month with no snow on the ground although it feels like winter.

Below you will find the message of Our Blessed Mother given to Father Melvin. She spoke to him these words:

“I love you My son Melvin and all My sons and daughters who acknowledge Me as your heavenly Mother. I call upon you to use your tongue to show your love for all the people you meet and to pray for all those in need. Give praise to your heavenly Father and to My Son Jesus, your Lord and Savior. Never use your tongue to commit sin. Keep it under control at all times. Many horrible sins are committed with the tongue. Many utter lies, insult people, curse them and condemn them. One should never do such things as they offend Your Father in heaven. You are called to love one another and to pardon all those who offend you in any way. Walk with your Savior every day and tell Him many times a day that you love Him, that you love Me and that you love all your brothers and sisters. So use your tongue to build up people and to help them in their troubles. Those who follow this way act like saints and My Son Jesus will bless them. I bless you too and I want you close to Me.”

Faith and Works

November 29, 2013

Dear Friends,

Faith and Works

A reading from the Letter of Saint James 2, 14 – 26:

What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone says he has faith but does not have works. Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,” but you do not give them the necessaries of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
Indeed someone might say, “You have faith and I have works.” Demonstrate your faith to me without works, and I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works. You believe that God is one. You do well. Even the demons believe that and tremble. Do you want proof, you ignoramus, that faith without works is useless? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar? You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by the works. Thus the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called “the friend of God.” See how a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. And in the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she welcomed the messengers and sent them out by a different route? For just as a body without a spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.

The sun came out yesterday after the rain and wind of the day before disappeared. It was 10 degrees Celsius yesterday. Today it will be colder and we might get some rain and some snow.

Below you will find the message of Our Lord and Savior given to Father Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words:

“Is your faith shown by your works, My brother Melvin and all My brothers and sisters? It is very good to believe in God the Father and to believe in Me your Savior. This means that you believe in God intellectually but if you do not show your faith by good works then your faith is useless. What do you think of a person who visits the sick, helps the poor, helps the elderly and forgives people. By doing all that, this person shows that he or she has a great love for Me, his or her Savior. It is your faith that brings you to prayer every day and pushes you to go to Holy Mass every Sunday and to receive Me in Holy Communion. Faith alone is not enough, you need to show your faith by all kinds of good works. I bless you all.”

Sin of Partiality

November 28, 2013

Dear Friends,

Sin of Partiality

A reading from the Book of Saint James 2, 1 – 13:

My brothers and sisters, show no partiality as you adhere to the faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ. For if a man with gold rings on his fingers and in fine clothes comes into your assembly, and a poor person in shabby clothes also comes in, and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say, “Sit here, please,” while you say to the poor one, “Stand there,” or “Sit at my feet,” have you not made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil designs?
Listen, my beloved. Did not God choose those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him? But you dishonored the poor person. Are not the rich oppressing you? And do they themselves not haul you off to court? Is it not they who blaspheme the noble name that was invoked over you? However, if you fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. But if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. For whoever keeps the whole law, but fall short in one particular, has become guilty in respect to all of it. For he who said, “You shall not commit adultery,” also said, “You shall not kill.” Even if you do not commit adultery but kill, you have become a transgressor of the law. So speak and so act as people who will be judged by the law of freedom. For the judgment is merciless to one who has not shown mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment.

Yesterday we had a fierce storm. It rained always the whole day but the wind came up in the afternoon and the rain intensified. Today it will rain some more but it should stop in the evening.

Below you will find the message of Our Lord and Savior given to Father Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words,

“I told you My brother Melvin and all My brothers and sisters that you are to love one another as I love you. You are not to love one and hate another. You are not to love a person because he or she has money or a beautiful car or a big house. You are not to push aside the poor person who is poorly dressed, has not much to eat and is cold in the winter. NO, you are to treat every person the same, which means you are to love them. I love every person and I died for every one of them. I want that all be saved and come to join Me in heaven one day. Look at St. Francis of Assisi when he was alive. He met a leper on the road one day and he got of his horse and went over to him and embraced him. This indeed is a great act of love especially because leprosy is very dangerous and St. Francis could have caught it.
Another great attribute that you all must have is mercy. You must show mercy to all people who have hurt you in any way. In this way Our Heavenly Father will show mercy to you and take away your sins.
Come and open your heart to Me and I will fill it with all the wonderful gifts I have for you. I love you all.”
