The Need for Assistants

Reading from the Acts of the Apostles 6, 1 – 7:

At  that time, as the numbers of disciples continued to grow, the
Hellenists complained against the Hebrews because their widows were
being neglected in the daily distribution. So the twelve called
together the community of the disciples and said, “It is not right for
us to neglect the word of God to serve at table. Brothers, select from
among you seven reputable men, filled with the Spirit and wisdom, whom
we shall appoint to this task, whereas we shall devote ourselves to
prayer and to the ministry of the  word.” The proposal was acceptable
to the  whole community, so they chose Stephen, a man filled with
faith and the Holy Spirit, also Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor. Timon,
Parmenas, and Nicholas of Antioch, a convert to Judaism. They
presented these men to the Apostles who prayed and laid hands on them.
The word of God continued to spread, and the number of the disciples
in Jerusalem increased greatly; even a large group of priests were
becoming obedient to the faith.

We had another beautiful sunny day today and the temperature was warm.
The farmers are still hard at work plowing the fields and planting
potatoes and certain grains. I thank all those who sent me money to
help me with my debts. There is still money on the way but I did not
receive it so far. I hope the money will come overnight. My feet are
still sore and I ask you all to pray that this pain will go away.
Thank you very much.

Below you will the message of Our Lord and Savior given to Father
Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words, “I bless you My brother Melvin
and all My brothers and sisters who follow Me every day by praying and
reading the Bible. In the biblical passage above tells us the problem
that the Apostles came up against. The Christians came to them
complaining that their widows were neglected by the Jewish Christian
people. So the Apostles had a meeting and they came to the conclusion
that seven men should be appointed to distribute the food to the
Christians. All were very happy with this and so they chose seven men
to do that job. One of the most well known is Stephen, a man filled
with faith and the Holy Spirit. With this decision, the Apostles could
continue to pray and to spread the Good News. However, when the seven
were chosen, the Apostles prayed for them and laid their hands on
them. Today these men are called deacons. You should have deacons in
every diocese of the church. There are dioceses with deacons but
others do not have them. Pray that there be deacons in every diocese.
They will play a wonderful role for the diocese.
May the Lord bless you all.”
