The Death of John the Baptist

A reading from the Gospel of Saint Matthew 14, 3 – 12:

Now Herod had arrested John the Baptist, bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, for John has said to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.” Although he wanted to kill him, he feared the people, for they regarded him as a prophet. But at a birthday celebration for Herod, the daughter of Herodias performed a dance before the guest and delighted Herod so much that he swore to give her whatever she might ask for. Prompted by her mother, she said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.” The king was distressed, but because of his oaths and the guest who were present, he ordered that it be given, and he had John beheaded in the prison. His head was brought in on a platter and given to the girl who took it to her mother. His disciples came and took away the corpse and buried him; and they went and told Jesus.

We had another sunny day today but it was cool for the temperature came up to only 3 degrees Celsius. I thank all those who sent names to be written in the Book of Remembrance. You know that it costs only $15 to write a name in that book and I celebrate three Masses a week for a full year for those inscribed in the Book. There is no greater prayer than Holy Mass. You can write the names of the living or the dead in the Book.

Below you will find the message of Our Lord and Savior given to Father Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words,

“I love you My brother Melvin and all My brothers and sisters who believe in Me with all their heart and follow Me every day. They love to pray every day and go to Holy Mass at least every Sunday. Those who do this will be blessed indeed and they will receive great gifts and graces from Me.
One of My great friends was Saint John the Baptist. He was the one who baptized Me in the Jordan River and pointed Me out to the large crowd present at the river that I was the Messiah sent by God the Father to redeem all those who believe in Me. John the Baptist had told King Herod that it was not lawful for him to live with Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip. Because he had said this Herod wanted to kill him but he refrained because he was afraid of the people. However, when the daughter of Herodias came and danced before the King and he was very delighted and promised to give her anything she asked for. She went to her mother and was told to ask for the head of John the Baptist on a platter. So the girl went to the king and asked him to give her the head of John the Baptist on a platter. He was not pleased to hear this, but because he had made an oath to give the girl anything she asked so he sent a soldier to the prison to behead John. The soldier brought the head on a platter and gave it to the girl who brought it to her mother.
This great saint, John the Baptist, was killed although he did not do anything wrong. He is a great martyr and now lives in heaven with Me and all the other saints. Ask John the Baptist to intercede for you and he surely will do so. He is indeed My great friend and he will live in happiness forever. I bless you all.”
