Power of the Tongue

A reading from the Letter of Saint James 3, 1 – 12:

Not many of you should become teachers, My brothers and sisters, for you realize that we will be judged more strictly, for we all fall short in many respects. If anyone does not fall short in speech, he is a perfect person, able to bridle his whole body also. If we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we also guide their whole bodies. It is the same with ships; even though they are so large and driven by fierce winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot’s inclination wishes. In the same way the tongue is a small member and yet has great pretensions.
Consider how small a fire can set a huge forest ablaze. The tongue is also a fire. It exists among our members as a world of malice, defiling he whole body and setting the entire course of our lives on fire, itself set on fire by Gehenna. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by the human species, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. This need not be so, my brothers and sisters. Does a spring gush forth from the same opening both pure and brackish water? Can a fig tree produce olives, or a grapevine figs? Neither can salt water yield fresh.

It is cloudy now and we will have plenty of rain in the next few days. The farmers are praying for rain so that the potatoes may continue to grow. By the end of next week they will most likely start praying for the sun again.

Below you will find the message of Our Lord and Savior given to Father Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words,

“I bless you My brother Melvin and all My brothers and sisters who use their tongue especially to pray and to bless Me, your Brother, and to bless My Mother too. Every human being has been given the gift of the tongue so all can speak. However, it is important to use the tongue in the right way and according to what our Heavenly Father has commanded us. You have all heard angry people cursing someone and telling all kinds of horrible things. Others use the tongue to tell lies and that too is sinful. If you are a Christian, you will curb your tongue and not allow any sinful words to come out. My dear friends, I am your example. When I was on earth I used My tongue to teach the truth and to show you what you are to believe and that you are to love every human being even those who hate you. Imitate Me and you will use your tongue in the right way. Do not let the devil take over your tongue. Be a true follower of Mine and you will be blessed. I love you all.”
