The Cure of a Crippled Woman

Dear Friends,

Jesus was teaching in a synagogue on the Sabbath. And a woman was there who for eighteen years had been crippled by a spirit; she was bent over, completely incapable of standing erect. When Jesus saw her, he called to her and said, “Woman, you are set free of your infirmity.” He laid his hands on her, and she at once stood up straight and glorified God. But the leader of the synagogue, indignant that Jesus had cured on the Sabbath, said to the crowd in reply, “There are six days when work should be done. Come on those days to be cured, not on the Sabbath day.” The Lord said to him in reply, “Hypocrites! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his ass from the manger and lead it out for watering? This daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound for eighteen years now, ought she not to have been set free on the Sabbath day from this bondage?” When he said this, all his adversaries were humiliated; and the whole crowd rejoiced at all the splendid deeds done by him. (Passage from the Gospel of St. Luke 13:10-17)

We had a fine day yesterday; it was cool and cloudy in the morning but the sun came out in the afternoon and it was warmer. On Tuesday, July 19, I will start the French Retreat at the Little Shrine of Our Lady of Prince Edward Island. It will begin at 2:00 p.m. and it will come to an end on Thursday, July 21, at noon. All are welcome.

There will be an English Retreat at the Little Shrine next month. It will start on Tuesday, August 16, at 2:00 p.m., and it will end on the 18th of August at noon. On the second day of each retreat there will be a Healing Mass and a basket will be passed around for a love offering.

Below you will find the message of Our Lord and Savior given to Father Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words,

“I bless you, My brother Melvin and all My brothers and sisters living in all the countries of the world. I know many of you are sick and in need of healing. In St. Luke’s Gospel it is written that I cured this woman who was crippled for eighteen years. I simply called her on the Sabbath in the synagogue to come forward and I placed My hands on her and she was healed. I used once more My great healing power to cure her of her infirmity. Although the leader of the synagogue was not pleased that I cured her on the Sabbath, I told them that she had been sick for eighteen years and it was high time to heal her even if it was on the Sabbath. All the people rejoiced at her healing.

Although there is a law not to work on the Day of the Lord, it can happen that one has to do something to help another person. This does not break the law but it simply fulfills the commandment of love. You are to help anyone in need even if it is Sunday, but you are not to work on Sunday. Yes, you have six days to work but keep holy the Day of the Lord God, but visit the sick and give food to the poor any day. I bless you all.”
